Those who purchased the Ultimate or Deluxe Editions of Guilty Gear Strive should already be playing it. As for the rest of us, Guilty Gear Strive Standard Edition will be releasing on June 11, 2021 — this Friday.
In an interview with 4gamer, Daisuke Ishiwatari and Akira Katano took the time to talk about their plans after Guilty Gear Strive is released.
“Normally, when development ends you’d just go ‘Alright everyone, go have some fun,’ but for us the sale date isn’t the end,” said Ishiwatari. “It feels more like the start. Our thinking is more like ‘we’ve still got lots more to work on.'”
“I think you’ve already gathered this after the second open beta test (May 14th-16th), but we’re still in development and overlooking the game,” added Katano. “Our management will of course still be working after the game is out, but for now we’ve focused on giving users a full package on release date that they can be satisfied with.”
Some time ago, it was announced that Guilty Gear Strive would be delayed from its original release date of April 9. Despite the delay, we would later learn that certain planned features and modes wouldn’t make it into Guilty Gear Strive on release due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, it seems that the developers intend to add these features into the game via future updates. “While this unfortunately meant that we had to cut quite a few elements and modes from the game, we intend to add them all in updates after the game’s release, so expect new content coming in the future,” said an Arc System Works representative.
The Guilty Gear Strive Season Pass will begin the game’s DLC with five extra fighters. Our first character will be a newcomer to the series that will be joining July 2021. In August 2021, a returning veteran from a past game will also join the battle.
Additionally, a new Combo Maker feature, more customization features for player match rooms and a Digital Figure Mode will be made available to all players. There’s no need to purchase the Season Pass to acquire this content.
Though there’s no official confirmation of this at the moment, there will likely be more season passes that release other characters beyond the first five DLC fighters.
