These gorgeous older cats have lost their owner – could you be the one to give them a loving new home?
The Newcastle and Northumberland branch of the RSPCA are looking for a perfect ‘retirement home’ for cuddly trio Astra, Oscar and Socks, after their previous owner was unable to continue looking after them.
The cats’ owner had registered the trio for the RSPCA’s Home for Life scheme, which ensures that if an owner passes away or goes into care permanently, the charity will care for and try to find a new loving home for their pet.
RSPCA staff say 10-year-old Oscar, a ginger and white cat, is a “shy” boy who has taken some time to settle into cattery life but he is now starting to trust the staff and enjoy their company. He can often be found snuggled up on his chair.
Astra, also 10, is a tortoiseshell and white cat, who, after a shy start, is now “increasingly affectionate and confident”. She loves strokes and has a “very playful side”. She is described as a sweet natured and gentle cat.
Socks, the oldest of the trio at 12 years old, is “a bit of a lap cat” and makes herself comfortable curled up on a knee. She likes to be stroked but is quite independent. The grey, ginger and white cat is the most confident of the trio so could possibly be rehomed separately.
They will all need experienced adopters and an adult-only home or a family with older children. They could probably live with a friendly dog and will need outdoor access in a safe garden away from busy roads.
Jane Tyson, a pet welfare specialist from the RSPCA, said: “Looking after a pet means loving and caring for them, for life, and it can also mean making plans for them in the event of our death, like this trio’s owner sensibly did.
“Just as things like moving house can be stressful for us, going to a new home can also be stressful for our pets. However, we work very hard to make sure animals find an owner who suits them and are on hand to help with advice and support.
“One of the best parts of working for the RSPCA is knowing an animal has been rehomed and seeing the joy they bring into their new owners life.”
